Yalanba Waṉambi

Yalanba Wanambi is a Yolngu artist from Northeast Arnhem Land. Born in 1973 Yalanba is the brother of the well-known artists Wukun Wanambi and Dhambit #2 Wanambi.

Yalanba is also the name of the site on the artists homeland where black sand, sparkling with mica, is collected to be used in his striking paintings.

His artistic practice first evolved from working in the traditional medium of ochre on bark and wood, to using found materials such as glass. More recently he has been working on discarded metal signs along with a dynamic group of other young artists working at Buku-Larrnggay Mulka Art Centre in Yirrkala.
