Unfolding the painting as a ‘packaged container’ are three works from the 2023 Yes and No series. This format revisits earlier envelope paintings begun in 1989. Hard edged compositions with dizzying patterned colours are set against shadowed borders creating many convergences and coincidences… any conscious resolution of meaning may be found only momentarily, unravelling the push and pull of both doubt and certainty. As Terence McKenna (1946-2000) wistfully commented: Every time we are given a choice the universe takes both sides.
