Michael Eather
(twenty 50 x 50 cm panels)
Adventure Index—an expansive, multi-panelled periodic table of ‘colour maps,’—described by the artist as a “wall of consciousness,” is presented as source material to inspire the viewer to engage with the unfolding narratives in many of his associated works.
This consists of 20 panels each 50x50cm are nominally arranged in a grid, without any narrative imagery. All panels contain 3 colours: one solid ground and two parallel striped lines. These panels might also be randomly interchanged as orchestrated patterns to create new and varied clashes of colour relationships in new spaces.
Originally installed in his Brisbane studio, the Adventure Index travels as an ongoing (organic) reference to renegotiate elements in his own work but to also activate new spaces. One proposition for this suggested ‘anticipation’ is that, we are poised—ideally just there, between any presupposed realms of narrative, imagination and abstraction—as we foresee borders vanish, floating in a philosophical landscape.
